Decorating with old books can be a lot of fun. Here, I'll show you step by step how you can make your own.
Start out with an old hard cover book.

Spread some newspaper and put on a latex glove. Rub Treasure Gold on the book with your finger. You can find this at Hobby Lobby or Michaels or maybe even Walmart.

Don't worry about getting it evenly distributed. The point is to make it look old and distressed.
You can even rub some on the papers for a more antiqued look.

Next, play with a variety of fabrics and ribbons to embellish the book.

Next, glue your fabric to the inside of the book and wrap the corners like giftwrap. You can use a variety of glues. Hot glue or spray adhesive works well for the fabric.

Finally, glue your trim to the rough edges of the front fabric and you are done! If you want, you can even decorate the inside cover to conceal the rough edges of the fabric. If I was giving the book as a gift, I would probably finish the inside, but for me, I'm not bothering. I'm on to my next project!

Now you know what to do with those old books you see at garage sales and thrift stores! Happy decorating!
